Cannabinoids: Benefits THC – CBD
Cannabinoids are a group of active compounds found in cannabis or marijuana, ganja, anyway you wanna call it. There are over 500 natural compounds in marijuana, but only 85 are cannabinoids. Some types of cannabinoids together with similar compounds in our body help us get high or pain relief. Cannabinoids splits in two parts: psychoactive and non-psychoactive.
The most known is THC which is a psychoactive cannabinoid (that’s the reason for your high). The second, you probably also heard about, is CBD. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid known for it’s medical benefits. But there are many other you might not know like CBC, THCV, CBG and CBN.
How can they help us ?
The human brain creates it’s own cannabinoids through the endocannabinoid system which has many important functions like :sleep, emotion, movement and appetite.
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most associated with the “high” and euphoria when using cannabis. THC has very high psychoactive characteristics typically ranging from 5-25%. Over-medicating with THC can cause adverse side effects, including disorientation and even hallucinations. Additional but uncommon side effects have included depression, anger, anxiety, and even short term memory loss.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is like THC, a main ingredient in the cannabis plant, but despite THC, CBD is a non-psychotic one and does not make you high. CBD has the most medical benefits of all components found in medical cannabis. GWpharmaceuticals are developing the potential of CBD for an epilepsy program. Purified and formulated as Epidolex, this new CBD based medicine can help epileptic children by reducing persisting seizures.

It’s sad that with such great properties and healing abilities, medicinal cannabis is still illegal in most countries. Even though CBD is legal in all 50 states is not truly exploited at its real potentials. If allowed, scientists could develop and create much more CBD based treatments.
Wouldn’t it be better to have the right to treat our diseases with a natural treatment, instead of taking a dozen of those chemical pills?
